Looking Back on Summer 2013 - Part 1

It has been a busy summer, so it has been awhile since we posted updates on our blog. We'll try to catch up now, with some "best-of" photos from the past few months, starting with July.

One Way: To the Good Harbor Beach

We already featured this photo on our Facebook page, but we liked it so much we wanted to share it here as well. The sign in the background has a message that we heed all summer long: there's only "one way" to head...to the beach!

Another Look (or Two) at the Cape Ann Restaurant Scene

We're always trying areas restaurants -- and here are dishes from two longtimes. A awesome looking beet salad from the Seaport Grille (and it tasted as great as it looked) and a Rocky Neck Omlette from Sugar Magnolia (that's a Irish eggs benedict across the table).

Bagpipes Make Their Debut at the Blue Shutters

A Blue Shutters first...bagpipes on our lawn. Later in the day, Ralph would be entertaining guests at wedding -- many of whom stayed at the Shutters (those a a bunch chilling in the yard prior to heading off to the ceremony. This was one of many Gloucester weddings where the bride and groom stayed with us. But none of these had bagpipes.

An Addition to the Restaurant Scene -- and a new Blue Shutters Neighbor

We have a lot of great restaurants on Cape Ann, and there always seems to be new additions. We just tried one of the newest, Olivia's, and everything was delicious. And its very close to the Blue Shutters -- near the other end of Good Harbor Beach, close enough to walk or a very short drive. There are picnic tables on the deck and a very nice dining room. There's also a take-out and order-in counter as well. We met chef Ron Urnetta, who's now running the place (for those of you who hail from our hometown of Burlington, you'll be interested to know that Ron has roots there too). Blue Shutters In The (UK) News: Bring On The British Invasion

We just got a heads up that we may be looking ahead to another "British Invasion" -- but this time, we're talking about tourists not rock groups. This morning we received an inquiry from a Brit (from Gloucester, England, interestingly) who told us about this article that ran in The Telegraph in the UK (speaking of invasions, while there's been a run on rooms for this summer in recent weeks, there are still openings -- but don't wait too long to make your Blue Shutters plans). In case you're wondering, the photo here is of Gloucester Cathedral in England ; you'll see a photo of this amazing building at the Blue Shutters -- a gift from a visitor to our B&B a few years ago.
